Summer Trail Report:

Gondola Open for Scenic Rides
Mountain Bike and Hiking Open

The ski area is open daily through August 21st; then weekends through Sept. 25th featuring scenic gondola rides, mountain biking and hiking. Due to new mountain bike trail development as well as ongoing wet conditions, a few Mountain Bike Trails remain closed. Additional detours and closures will be experienced due to logging operations, base area construction and mountain work.

Trail Maps

Steamboat's world class Trails and Lift System covers public land provided by a unique partnership with the Routt National Forest.  You gotta love a resort that names one of its biking trails "Pete's Wicked Trail."  It is challenging, but there is terrain for all levels of mountain biking or hiking. 

The Nature Den - the place to get information on trails,  nature....

The Nature Den is open daily and located inside the Lobby at the top of the Gondola, provides an interpretive environmental exhibit and information on the area. 

About Our Hiking Trails

The Thunderhead Hiking Trail is a 3-mile trail between the top of the gondola and the base of the mountain through aspen, evergreen groves and offers scenic vistas. The vertical gain/loss is 2,180’. Bikes are not allowed on this trail

  • VISTA NATURE TRAIL  - The Vista Nature Trail offers a self-guided interpretive hike, which is an easy one-mile loop and takes about 1 hour. The trail is located at the top of the gondola and is relatively flat, has picnic tables and is great for families. The vertical gain/loss is 2,180'.  The first half is also handicap accessible. Bikes are not allowed on this trail.
     
  • NATURE DEN  - The Nature Den, open daily and located inside the Lobby at the top of the Gondola, provides an interpretive environmental exhibit and information on the area.
     
  • CHISHOLM TRAIL  (1.62 miles):  A challenging hike from top of gondola to Four Points Hut (9, 716 feet) on service road.  Bikes may be encountered along this entire trail.
