Steamboat Straight Talk Snow Report: 4/06/08

This is probably the most difficult report I've written all season long. It's the last report of an epic recording breaking season. A season that will be talked about on bar stools and chair lifts for many years to come.

How do I summarize the 489 inches of snow we received? How do I put into words the feeling, all of us felt, time and time again of Champagne Powder® blowing over our backs as we skied through the aspen groves of Shadows? Do you remember the 15 inch morning on January 10th and the 25 inches that fell through January 13th? How do I write about this? What are the words that explain not only the snow we received but also how the Steamboat community cheered on the snow and cherished every inch we received?

Many locals have described this winter as a four-wire winter-they’ve said over and over, "I've never shoveled this much snow". Personally, I went through 3 brand new snow shovels and my snow blower is on its last leg. How would you describe a winter where we saw 489 inches of snow, barely saw the sun, and skied endless amounts of powder?

There are three words that come close to describing our epic season. Three words that we all know…Champagne Powder® Magic. It's magic in the form of the lightest deepest snow you'll experience. The snow that brings people back, year after year, to Steamboat for family vacations and ski reunions with old buddies. The reason I moved here, the reason many of you moved here and the reason people from all around the world visit our piece of heaven-The Champagne Powder® Magic.

I could continue to write for pages and pages about the most epic season on the record books, but I'm going to leave the final stories to you. Think about your favorite powder days. The best run you had. That morning that the snow was not only in your face but also over your back. That run through the trees that kept you smiling all the way down from bottomless Champagne Powder. The days you spent with family and friends. These memories describe our recording breaking season. These are the memories that will keep us smiling from today until the lifts start turning next season.

Keep powder on your mind; remember the deep days and we'll talk when the cork pops. Email Me.
