Steamboat Through The Years
Steamboat Resort has long storied roots as old as the West itself. Beginning when a Norwegian ski jumper named Carl Howelsen strapped two long planks of wood to his feet and introduced a sleepy cow town to a crazy sport called skiing. In the years to follow area ranchers and visionary pioneers would go on to carve out this special place in the Yampa Valley. A place where the snow is so light and fluffy, it was called Champagne Powder® snow as it tickled your nose. Pop a bag of popcorn, start a nice evening fire, and relive these Steamboat moments from the past, and fall in love with this place filled with Happy Trails all over again.
Steamboat Stories
To celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Steamboat Resort, we have complied stories of people who have shaped the mountain from its humble beginnings to the resort of today, sharing their deep roots, traditions, and memories.

Steamboat Winter 2022/23
What an amazing 60th anniversary season! It seems like everywhere you turn there was something to celebrate, from opening the Wild Blue Gondola and reimagined base area, to teaching students in the new Greenhorn Ranch learning center. But the biggest highlight has to be ALL. THAT. SNOW! Nearly 500 inches at mid-mountain and almost 600 inches at the summit, it was the second snowiest season on the record books.
